Tanya Davies MP, Member for Mulgoa today announced that applications have been extended for a grant program for Long Day Care centres to offer preschool programs.

Tanya Davies said $20 million has been made available for these services to offer these education programs in the year before school.

“Services will begin receiving the funding from October and I would encourage long day care centres to return their funding contracts and payment information to the Department of Education,” Tanya Davies said.

“We have extended the applications by a week so that services who haven’t applied can do so. I urge all centres to get their applications in by Friday, 28 August.”

Minister for Early Childhood Education Leslie Williams acknowledged that Long Day Care is often the preferred option for working families.

“We want to provide children with the same learning opportunity, regardless of the type of service they attend,” Minister Williams said.

“Services can use the funding to purchase resources, develop a preschool program based on the Early Years Learning Framework or enhance staff capability, including by upgrading qualifications.

“Community Preschools have already benefited from this Government’s reforms and I am pleased to announce that we are extending this to Long Day Care centres.”

The new Long Day Care National Partnership Grants Program is part of an agreement between the NSW and Commonwealth Governments to increase participation in preschool programs for four and five-year-old children in the year before school.
