CHANGED TRAFFIC CONDITIONS ON THE NORTHERN ROAD AND M4 MOTORWAY

Friday December 4, 2015

Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith and Tanya Davies MP, Member for Mulgoa today announced that changed traffic conditions will be in place from Wednesday 9 December while investigation work is carried out on The Northern Road and the M4 Motorway at Orchard Hills, South Penrith and Glenmore Park.

Stuart Ayres said the Australian and NSW Governments are funding a $1.6 billion, 35 kilometre upgrade of The Northern Road which is a key project in the $3.6 billion Western Sydney Infrastructure Plan to transform road infrastructure in one of Australia’s fastest growing regions.

“Geotechnical work will be carried out to progress planning of the detailed design and environmental assessment for the interchange between the M4 Motorway and The Northern Road at Orchard Hills, which forms part of the stage three upgrade between Luddenham and Penrith,” Stuart Ayres said.

Tanya Davies said Investigations include drilling boreholes and excavation work and will take 30 shifts to complete including 10 night shifts.

“Work will be under way between Wednesday 9 December and Friday 29 January from 8am to 4pm and 7pm to 6am excluding Saturdays and weather permitting.

“No work will be carried out during the Christmas holiday period between Thursday 24 December and Monday 4 January.

“To ensure the safety of workers and motorists a reduced speed limit and lane closures will be in place while work is under way.

“Motorists should plan their trip, allow extra travel time and follow the direction of traffic control and all signs. Electronic message signs along the road will display any changes to work dates and times,” said Tanya Davies.

“Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of work on nearby residents and businesses.

“Roads and Maritime thanks motorists for their patience while this work is carried out.”
