Shooting hoops and basketball games with friends just got a whole lot better with upgrades to the Heysen Park basketball court in Abbotsbury.
Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies MP has welcomed upgrades to the Heysen Park basketball court, partially funded from a grant administered under the NSW Government’s Community Building Partnership Program.
“The allocation of this grant to Fairfield City Council signifies the NSW Government’s commitment to supporting projects that encourage growth and development in our local community,” Tanya Davies said.
Fairfield City Council Mayor Frank Carbone said the Heysen Park basketball court, one of 15 across the city, had been resurfaced and the backboard and hoop replaced.
“Council has been progressively upgrading our basketball courts across the city,” Mayor Carbone said.
Along with the court upgrade, council has built an extra 200-metre long connecting footpath from Martens Place. The new footpath makes the court more easily accessible.
Council also installed bench seating and planted shade trees.
“The upgrades give residents more variety and opportunities to get out and about, keep active and be healthy,” Major Carbone said.
The $57,600 basketball court upgrade and Martens Place footpath will be available for use from the first week of October.
