Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies MP met with Colyton High School Trade School (CHSTS) Student, Ryan Guy, to welcome him back to Australia following his trip to Space Camp in Huntsville Alabama.
Ryan attended the camp with 30 other students from schools across Sydney including fellow CHSTS student Jake Mula, and was selected by the teachers to receive the Apollo Award for leadership and commitment to the team.
The camp is run for students with an interest in space to learn about orbiter systems and experience life as an astronaut.
The camp teaches students about the parts of an orbiter and engages them on missions to operate simulated orbiters whilst dealing with various challenges.
Ryan said that the experience was "eye opening" and had reignited his interest in space.
"I have always had an interest in space and orbiters, it was hard to be away from home, but I'm definitely considering a career in space" Ryan said.
Ryan said he fundraised as much he could towards the cost of the trip.
"It cost around $7000, so I'm grateful to the school P&C and Tanya Davies for sponsoring my trip and most of all to my parents for giving me this opportunity"
