Tanya Davies MP, Member for Mulgoa, congratulates local carer Mrs Janmaree Martin and the Nepean Area Disabilities Organisation (NADO) Carer Support Group located in St Marys for receiving local carers awards as part of the 2013 NSW Carers Week celebrations which runs from 13-19 October 2013.
“These awards are presented to individuals and organisations to acknowledge and celebrate the enormous contribution that carers make in our local community.” Tanya Davies said.
Janmaree Martin provides most of the care for four members of her family, who rely heavily on her for their quality of life, and yet she still finds time to advocate for improved respite care for others in her community.
“Janmaree Martin is a worthy recipient of this Carers NSW award and I congratulate her for her outstanding contribution to the local community” said Tanya Davies.
NADO runs a 20-strong carer support group for carers of people with disability. They provide and operate very practical interventions and solutions for carers in the local community who may be missing out on important services or are having difficulty providing the service.
When a local carer was collapsing under the stress of caring for multiple members of her family, NADO stepped in and organized counseling and respite care, making the difference between coping and not coping with the pressures of caring for family members with disabilities.
“I congratulate the dedicated staff of the NADO Carer Support Group led by CEO, Denise Heath for their tremendous efforts in supporting carers in our local community.” Tanya Davies said.
The awards were presented to Janmaree Martin and Denise Heath, CEO of NADO
St Marys, by The Hon. John Ajaka MLC, Minister for Ageing and Minister for Disability Services and Tanya Davies MP, Member for Mulgoa.
