Tanya Davies MP, Member for Mulgoa, made a surprise visit to the St Clair Comets Junior Rugby League Club grounds at Erskine Park to congratulate and present Bill Borg, the club secretary, with a NSW Government Community Service Award.
“I am delighted to present Bill with this award in recognition of his tireless voluntary work, dedicating a large portion of his personal life supporting and encouraging children to be active participants in team sports” Tanya Davies said.
Bill has volunteered as club secretary since 1990, and has been instrumental in the club’s growth and plays a vital role in the day to day operations of one of the largest Rugby League clubs in the Penrith district with an annual playing roster of almost 700 players.
“I am humbled in accepting this award and I would like to thank my fellow committee and club members for their support and assistance” said Bill Borg.
Bill has played a leading role in many major improvements to the playing field amenities at Peppertree Reserve in Erskine Park, including canteen, change rooms improvements, fencing the fields and the introduction of a new mini playing field.
Bill’s efforts were recognized by Penrith City Council in renaming the mini fields in his honour as a reward for his many years of service to the community.
