Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies MP met with Nepean Area Disability Organisation (NADO) CEO, Denise Heath last week to congratulate NADO on being nominated for the 2012 NSW Carers Awards.
NADO was nominated for the awards which recognise the contribution that carers make, not only to the people for whom they care, but also their community.
NADO was nominated for its carers support group which consists of approximately 10 carers who meet once a month at St Marys Leagues club.
Ms Heath said that carers are often on their own with no one to share with and the group offers a way to socialize, laugh, talk and share ideas.
NADO also provide the support group members with other services to help them or those they are caring for.
Mrs Davies said that it is important to recognise the contribution that organizations like NADO make to the community.
"1 in 10 people in NSW dedicate their time to caring for someone with a disability, mental illness, medical condition, dementia or who is frail and aged"
"NADO is a go-to place for carers. The wonderful dedicated NADO staff act as a central point to ask a range of questions and get answers on matters that affect disabled people and their carers in their everyday life."
"The NSW Carers awards seek to acknowledge the significant contribution that unpaid carers and carer support organisations make to the community. Congratulations to NADO on being nominated and thank you for your contribution to our area" Mrs Davies said.
