NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation, Graham Annesley MP accompanied by Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies MP and Recreation Manager from Penrith City Council, Andrew Robinson today announced that Cook Park facilities at St Marys will get a much needed upgrade with funding support from the NSW Government and Penrith City Council. Cook Park is operated by the Nepean District Soccer Football Association.
“The amount of $22,556 comes from Round 2 of the NSW Government’s Participation and Facility Grant Program,” Mr Annesley said.
Mrs Davies was delighted the NSW Government had included the Mulgoa electorate as part of its sporting facilities funding support for over 160 local sports groups across NSW this year. “Local construction jobs and businesses will benefit from the activity, as this well utilised community infrastructure is upgraded and refurbished” Mrs Davies said.
“This NSW Government funding will go a long way to improving player and spectator safety in my electorate for many years to come” Mrs Davies said.
Mrs Davies said the grant will go towards the restoration of the 50 year old facility that is considered home to generations of footballers and football supporters in the Nepean District. The use of Cook Park has grown significantly since the facilities were originally built 50 years ago, and are in dire need of refurbishment.
Penrith City Council announced that they will agree to contribute an additional $20,000 to help complete the upgrades.
