Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies MP today announced planning for the future upgrade of The Horsley Drive between Cowpasture Road and the M7 Motorway has progressed with the release of the Environmental Investigation Report.

Tanya Davies said The Horsley Drive is a key arterial road connection to the Smithfield/Wetherill Park industrial area and provides a strategic freight link to and from the M7 Motorway.

“Around 40,000 vehicles a day use The Horsley Drive with around 22 per cent of these being heavy vehicles,” Tanya Davies said.

“With population growth and its proximity to the western Sydney employment land, it is important planning for the future starts now to reduce congestion for motorists.

“Key features of the proposal include a four lane divided road between the M7 Motorway and Cowpasture Road with a wide central median to allow for six lanes in the future.

“Intersections would also be upgraded including removing the roundabout and installing traffic lights at The Horsley Drive and Cowpasture Road intersection.

“The future upgrade also includes a pedestrian and cyclist shared path along The Horsley Drive, connecting to the Western Sydney Parklands cycleway.

“The Environmental Investigation Report addresses the potential environmental impact including noise, heritage, biodiversity and property along with the impact from building work.

“Members of the community are encouraged to make a submission on the proposed concept design and Environmental Investigation Report until Friday, 4 August 2017.”

Roads and Maritime will host two community information sessions where the project team will be available to answer any questions and receive feedback.

“All the feedback received will be considered and responded to in a submissions report,” Tanya Davies said.
