Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies MP has presented the Treasurer, the Hon Mike Baird MP, with a written proposal to relocate the methadone clinic on Queen Street, St Marys.
Mrs Davies met with the Treasurer in Parliament House to put to him the community's case for relocating the clinic to a more suitable location.
Mrs Davies told the Treasurer that she is regularly contacted by residents and business owners who feel the effects of the Methadone clinic on the community.
"I explained to the Treasurer that the clinic is negatively impacting on businesses that are already finding it tough".
"People should be able to feel safe in their own communities and small business should be supported" Mrs Davies said.
"The relocation of the clinic to a health precinct will provide better care to these patients and their children. Access to doctors, counsellors, paediatric nurses and group discussions can be facilitated at a properly construction medical facility".
The meeting with the Treasurer followed the establishment of a new committee to address the community's concerns as well as examine the option for relocating the clinic. The committee includes Tanya Davies MP along with representatives from NSW Department of Health, St Marys LAC, St Marys Town Centre Management, Penrith City Council and the Methadone Clinic Licensee and a methadone client.
