Listening to your iPod? On an important work call? Or taking a new bus for the first time? Never worry about missing your stop again with the latest update now live on the Opal Travel app.
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance announced three new features, including ‘stop alerts’ which let customers know when they’re approaching their destination.
“This is just a simple way of making the most of the journey, letting you do other things without worrying about missing your stop,” Mr Constance said.
“GPS is used on your mobile device to simply notify customers when they are a few stops away so they can get ready to jump off their service.”
The latest update also offers real time journey disruption messages, tailored to your personal trip. Opal App users will only receive information about their journey. For example, if a customer is travelling on the T1 Western Line between Penrith and Parramatta, they will only be notified if a disruption affects their journey, not further along the line.
Service alerts will cover a range of occurrences from delays due to critical incidents or planned track work, right down to lift availability, allowing customers to directly control how often they receive notifications.
“With more and more transport customers relying on their mobile phone as the main source of information for their transport services, these updates make the Opal Travel app even more useful to the 54,000 people who use it every day,” Mr Constance said.
Customers can now download the free Opal Travel app via the Apple App store for Apple devices and the Google Play store for Android devices.
Customers will still be able to enjoy all of the current Opal Travel app features including trip history, card top ups and balance checks.
