Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies MP today urged seniors living in Mulgoa to leap into the digital world as the Tech Savvy Seniors roadshow sets off on a regional tour of NSW.
Over eight days the roadshow will visit 10 locations across NSW, providing digital literacy training for seniors on how to use smartphones and tablets, shop and bank online, and use social media.
Tanya Davies said that Tech Savvy Seniors was an important initiative, particularly for older people living in rural areas like Mulgoa, who can often find themselves isolated from services.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for older people in Mulgoa. It will get more seniors accessing information that will benefit their health and social wellbeing.”
“I strongly encourage all seniors to come along to the St Clair roadshow,” Mrs Davies said.
As Minister for Ageing, Tanya Davies also said the benefits of being online cannot be overstated; it helps people connect with their friends and loved ones and access services more easily.
“This program is a key initiative of the NSW Government’s Ageing Strategy to help older Australians develop confidence and skills to better participate in all aspects of the community,” Mrs Davies said.
Tech Savvy Seniors is delivered in partnership with Telstra, and was first launched in 2012.
Tricia Wilson, Telstra Area General Manager for Central NSW, said she can’t wait to see seniors in regional areas getting digital.
“It’s through building knowledge, skills and confidence that our NSW seniors are able to thrive in our digital world, from managing their banking online to watching videos of their grandchildren on social media,” Ms Wilson said.
The tour will also stop in Forster, Guyra, Barraba, Dubbo, Griffith, Wagga Wagga, Gundagai, Temora, and finish in Bathurst.
