Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies MP today paid tribute to all carers and called on locals to show their support as part of National Carers Week.
A carer is someone who provides ongoing, unpaid support to people who need help because of disability, mental illness, chronic or terminal illness, dementia or frail age.
“National Carers Week runs from 15 October to 21 October. The focus this year is encouraging everyone to take a moment to thank carers for their contribution,” Tanya Davies said.
“They are some of the most selfless members of our community, and I call on everyone in Mulgoa to do their part to thank them.”
There are 535 local events for carers during NSW Carers Week, including breakfasts, barbecues, pamper sessions, and day trips.
Minister for Disability Services, Ray Williams said the NSW Government is reinvesting $5.6 million in funding over three years for projects under the Carer Investment Program.
“In NSW there are more than 857,000 carers who provide unpaid support to vulnerable people,” Mr Williams said.
“Thank you to all carers for your commitment and contribution to supporting people who need it most.”
