WORK STARTING ON STAGE 1 OF THE M4 SMART MOTORWAY

Monday November 6, 2017

The NSW Government is funding this project to introduce a smarter way of travelling the M4 Motorway, which will provide you a more consistent and reliable journey.

Roads and Maritime Services is starting work on Stage 1 of the M4 Smart Motorway project, between Mamre Road, St Marys and Reservoir Road, Eastern Creek. You will notice the following activities happening along the M4 Motorway from Monday 6 November:

  • Establishing temporary site compounds and storage areas
  • Installing temporary traffic signs and safety barriers
  • Geotechnical, survey and utility investigations
  • Relocating drainage, water, electricity and power communications cables
  • Setting up water basins, dust monitors and sediment fencing to reduce environmental impacts
  • Removing some vegetation within the work area.

The standard work hours will be between 7am and 6pm from Monday to Friday and between 8am and 1pm on Saturday, excluding public holidays, weather permitting. We will also be working at night in some areas. Night work hours will be between 6pm and 7am from Sunday to Friday. Stage 1 work is expected to be complete by mid 2019.

The work may be noisy at times but every effort will be made to minimise these impacts. Nearby residents will be notified in advance of any activities planned at night.

A temporary detour for cyclists will be in place between the Prospect Highway, Prospect, and Mamre Road, St Marys. There will be signs to let you know of this change and they will remain in place until Stage 1 work is complete in mid 2019.

Cyclists travelling east on the M4 Motorway will exit at Mamre Road to access the Great Western Highway, and return to the M4 at the Prospect Highway.

Cyclists travelling west will exit at the Prospect Highway, and enter the Great Western Highway via the on-ramp towards Penrith, and return to the M4 at Mamre Road. Visit the RMS website to download the detour map: rms.nsw.gov.au/m4smartmotorway.

There will be some temporary traffic changes to ensure the work zone is safe.

Lane closures will be in place and may affect travel times. Please keep to speed limits and follow signs and traffic controllers’ directions. For the latest traffic updates, you can call 132 701, visit livetraffic.com or download the Live Traffic NSW App.
